You could easily say that it feels like it was yesterday when the whole future dance-rock sound sent music lovers and concert-goers alike into a frenzy. So, why not repeat what works? Afterall, if it ain’t broke don’t fix it, right? Well that’s just what the Essex-based quartet the Magistrates plan to do.

Although they remain relatively unknown in the London indie scene, you would be wise to keep your eye focused on this band in 2008. Not only did they recently land a slot supporting the Black Kids’ sold-out ICA show later this week, but their name slowly but steadily keeps popping up in more and more A&R folks’ offices around the industry. GWFAS described them as “the Klaxons squaring off with Prince… all frantic group vocals and glossy falsettos.” One A&R head even went as far as to call them the best new band since Vampire Weekend. A stretch? Decide for yourself.

Their new single, “The Inbetweens”, one of three songs on the band’s new demo CD, will surely leave you wanting more. Thus, here’s the link to check them out on their MySpace.

Here’s episodes 11 and 12 of the Bloc Party Vcasts, which this time take the form of ‘Blocumentaries,’ recorded by two fans during the band’s arena tour last December. These episodes were filmed at the London Alexandra Palace dates. Glasgow and Manchester videos are coming up soon.

While we’re on the subject of Bloc Party, guitarist Russell Lissack – who is also the brains behind the Bloc Party remixes – has a new project with New York City vocalist Milena Mepris called Pin Me Down, and “Cryptic” is the duo’s first single. It came out on Kitsune Maison’s GOLD Compilation February 4th and a proper 12″ release for the single will follow in March on the vaunted French house label. I could do with some different vocals I guess, but the guitars are all about that classic Silent Alarm-era Bloc Party sound, and there really isn’t anything more I can ask for than that.
