Could Grand Ole Party be the next Yeah Yeah Yeahs? After listening to this triplet, I couldn’t help but see visions of Karen-O bouncing about on stage. Mostly in part by singer/drummer Kristin Gundred’s striking resemblance to the YYY’s iconic singer. There’s no doubt that GOP took a page from the Yeah Yeah Yeah’s playbook. The similarities are overwhelming.

Nonetheless, their new album, “Humanimals,” is full of ambitious narratives. They’re lyrical tales that dangle in front of a vintage rock ‘n’ roll history lesson. The vocals are the undeniable spotlight though, as Gundred’s range carries the anthems and memoirs of sin and dark corners with pointed attitude, sexiness and miles of depth.

Grand Ole Party is definitely a band you need to get out and see. Unfortunately for you, if you don’t live in California that may prove difficult. GOP’s upcoming shows are all in California until a three night stand in Austin, Texas. After that, it’s back to familiar territory in California. But if you get that elusive opportunity to see them, be sure to do it.
